Milton Erickson, a hypnotist, and a change worker was born in Aurum, Nevada on December 5, 1901. Milton Hyland Erickson was an American psychiatrist that was the founding president of the American Society for clinical hypnosis. He had polio twice and left him partially paralyzed, which led him to be keenly aware of how his physical body communicated differently from his verbal.
He used self-hypnosis techniques to deal with muscle pain, fatigue, and fears. What made him such a great healer and hypnotist is that he was willing to be totally vulnerable to what was happening to his body during polio and accepted the change for what was right for him.
Erickson’s hypnosis work and his skills on using storytelling and metaphors were a few ingredients he used to help healed people to allow people to have more faith that allows people to address their problems without speaking directly about them. It helps ease fears, scrutiny, and the comparison of others.
Adapting to Change
Here is a story about a girl that learned about to face change and adapt to the world around her to feel more accomplished and have self-control to feel more dignified about herself.
When she was a baby leaving Vietnam around 4 or 5 years ago, she as an adult has PTSD about fireworks that remind the sound of guns. She was in a constant state of overwhelm, sadness and fear. She bites her nails because of a bad habit of anxiety. She nit-picks her skin, nails, and hair because of her bad habit of anxiety. She nitpicks herself because of the unrealistic expectations of being perfect.
She recalls a memory where at church is put holy water around her nails to pray to God for beautiful nails. The priest told her that he was proud that she loves God and hoping she start loving herself by stopping biting her nails.
As she got older, got married and had her own child, she finds herself feeling trapped by her bad habit. The strong motivation and desire to stop biting her nails allows her to chase freedom from worry and move toward the chase of that she can own herself, like herself and re-engineer herself every morning. She likes herself because she is a good role model for her daughter. Hypnosis helps her chase her confidence and adapt toward a workable solution to her anxiety.
Can Hypnosis and NLP Change Behavior?
Hypnosis and NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) are two powerful tools that can be used to change behavior. They can be used to help people break bad habits, such as smoking, nail biting, overeating, and procrastination.
Hypnosis is a state of focused attention in which a person is more open to suggestion. NLP is a set of techniques that can be used to change the way people think, feel, and behave. NLP is a series of playful games where the hypnotist gets your mood in a more resourceful way toward success.
Hypnosis is having a single focus and a single-minded fixation toward a goal. Hypnosis helps you remain in a relaxed state of mind while you do the actions that match your goals. Being disciplined and doing the actions to create the lifestyle you deserve requires repetition of that more effective habit.
Together, hypnosis and NLP can be used to address the underlying causes of bad habits. They can help people identify the triggers that lead to their bad habits, and to develop new coping mechanisms. They can also help people change their subconscious beliefs about their bad habits, making it easier to break them.
Here are some of the ways that hypnosis and NLP can be used to help you break bad habits:
Identifying triggers: Hypnosis and NLP can help you identify the triggers that lead to your bad habit. Once you know what your triggers are, you can start to avoid them or develop strategies for coping with them. The only way to correct what is wrong is to label and identify your un-useful habit. You got to know what is wrong to see what to do differently.
Hypnosis and NLP can help you develop new coping mechanisms for dealing with stress or boredom, which are common triggers for bad habits. For example, if you are stressed, change your physiology. It is as easy as walking, swimming, or riding a bike, change your mood by having more body movement. Change the way you feel about the habit by doing something different like rolling your eyeballs upward or listening to music while you dance to that fun mood of being excited about you doing something right that increases your self-esteem.
Changing subconscious beliefs: Hypnosis and NLP can help you change your subconscious beliefs about your bad habit. For example, if you believe that you are powerless to break your bad habit, hypnosis and NLP can help you change that belief to something more positive, such as “I am in control of my own behavior.”
Reprogramming the subconscious mind: Hypnosis can be used to reprogram the subconscious mind, which is where habits are stored. This can be done by giving the subconscious mind positive suggestions about the desired behavior.
Changing the way, you think and feel: NLP can be used to change the way you think and feel about your bad habits. This can be done by identifying and changing the negative thoughts and beliefs that are associated with bad habits.
If you are interested in using hypnosis and NLP to break a bad habit, it is important to find a qualified practitioner.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind if you are considering using hypnosis and NLP to break a bad habit:
- Hypnosis and NLP are not magic bullets. They take time and effort to work. For hypnosis to work, you must take your own suggestions to break free from your bad habit and follow a more effective one.
- You need to be motivated to change. Hypnosis and NLP can help you, but they cannot force you to change.
- You need to be open to suggestion. Hypnosis and NLP work best when you are open to the suggestions that the practitioner gives you. You must listen to the actions you should take and simply take them.
